A ‘Catastrophic’ Risk, Warns Henry Kissinger

Endless US-China Contest Risks ‘Catastrophic’ Conflict, Henry Kissinger Warns

Henry Kissinger warns of 'catastrophic' conflicts unless China and US settle their differences | South China Morning Post

Few people are as well connected or have more diplomatic experience than Kissinger, particularly when it comes to America’s bilateral ties with China. Beijing is not “determined to achieve a world domination,” Kissinger said in a recent Chatham House webinar “they’re trying to develop the maximum capability of which their society is able.”

The 97-year-old Kissinger called on the US to create a balance with existing global forces, saying

“And if you imagine that the world commits itself to an endless competition based on the dominance of whoever is superior at the moment, then a breakdown of the order is inevitable. And the consequences of a breakdown would be catastrophic.”

The veteran diplomat warned the US of creating a pre-World War One situation:

“Is it possible for us to develop a foreign policy thinking together with allies and understood by other countries that looks for world order at the basis of that sort of analysis? And if we don’t get to an understanding with China on that point, then we will be in a pre-World War One-type situation in which there are perennial conflicts that get solved on an immediate basis but one of them gets out of control at some point.”

The Straits Times (May 1, 2021) published another speech given and reaffirmed his thoughts that United States-China tensions threaten to engulf the entire world and could lead to an Armageddon-like clash between the two military giants.

Strains with China are “the biggest problem for America, the biggest problem for the world,” Mr Kissinger told the McCain Institute’s Sedona Forum on global issues.

“Because if we can’t solve that, then the risk is that all over the world a kind of cold war will develop between China and the United States.”

More from RT “For the first time in human history, humanity has the capacity to extinguish itself in a finite period of time,” Kissinger said, “the nuclear issue is added the high tech issue, which in the field of artificial intelligence, in its essence is based on the fact that man becomes a partner of machines and that machines can develop their own judgement.” This is not just about nuclear missiles, as it was in the days of America and the Soviet Union, but also about the ability of advanced technology to reimagine and refine warfare in ways not conceived previously.

Speaking of Ephraim:

“In all your dwelling places the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be desolate, that your altars may be laid waste and made desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished” Ezekiel 6:6.
